Women’s Health, Menstrual Cycle, Fertility & Pregnancy Yoga Blog

Welcome to the Yoga with Liv Sarah Berry blog — a space for women who want to understand their bodies, feel more connected to themselves and use yoga as a practical tool to support their physical and emotional wellbeing through every stage of life.

Here you’ll find yoga, movement, wellbeing and women’s health resources designed to help you navigate everything from your menstrual cycle and period symptoms to fertility, pregnancy, birth and postnatal recovery.

Whether you’re looking for a yoga practice to ease period cramps, wondering how to adapt your yoga practice around your menstrual cycle, exploring fertility yoga while trying to conceive, preparing your body for birth or finding your feet in the postnatal period, you’re in the right place.

I believe yoga should work with your body — not against it.

Your body isn’t the same every day, and your yoga practice doesn’t need to be either. Your energy, hormones, mood, strength and physical needs can change throughout your menstrual cycle, during pregnancy and throughout the different seasons of your life.

This blog is here to help you understand those changes and discover ways to support yourself through them.

Yoga for Women’s Health

Women’s health is a huge and often overlooked area of wellbeing. From menstruation and hormonal changes to fertility, pregnancy and life after birth, women experience significant physical and emotional changes throughout their lives.

Yoga can be a wonderful way to support your overall wellbeing during these different stages.

A women’s health yoga practice isn’t about forcing your body into a particular shape or following a rigid routine. It’s about developing awareness, strength, mobility, breath and connection with your body.

Through the articles and yoga resources on this blog, you’ll find practical information to help you explore how yoga can support your women’s health, whether you’re completely new to yoga or already have an established practice.

We’ll explore topics such as:

  • Yoga for the menstrual cycle
  • Yoga for period pain and cramps
  • Yoga for PMS and common period symptoms
  • Movement and relaxation during menstruation
  • Yoga for fertility and trying to conceive
  • Yoga during IVF and fertility treatment
  • Yoga during pregnancy
  • Prenatal yoga for each trimester
  • Yoga for birth preparation
  • Postnatal and postpartum yoga
  • Rebuilding strength after birth
  • Breathwork, meditation and relaxation
  • Body confidence and self-acceptance
  • Women’s wellbeing and mental health

The aim isn’t to tell you that there is one “perfect” way to practise yoga.

Instead, you’ll learn how to listen to your body and make choices that support what you need today.

Yoga and Your Menstrual Cycle

Your menstrual cycle can affect much more than when you bleed.

Energy levels, mood, appetite, motivation, sleep, strength and the way your body feels can all change throughout the month. Yet we’re often taught to expect our bodies to perform in exactly the same way every single day.

This is where menstrual cycle yoga can offer a different approach.

Instead of pushing through when your body is asking you to slow down, cycle-aware yoga encourages you to pay attention to what is happening and adapt your movement accordingly.

On the blog, you’ll find resources exploring how you can use yoga throughout the different phases of your menstrual cycle.

You might discover practices for when you have plenty of energy and want to move dynamically, as well as gentler practices for menstruation or days when you’re feeling tired, uncomfortable or overwhelmed.

We’ll also explore yoga for common menstrual symptoms, including period cramps, bloating, lower back discomfort, fatigue and PMS.

The goal isn’t to promise that yoga will magically “fix” your period.

Instead, yoga can give you tools to move, breathe, rest and connect with your body when you need support.

If you’re someone who dreads your period every month, feels disconnected from your body or simply wants to understand your cycle better, these resources are here for you.

Fertility Yoga & Trying to Conceive

Trying to conceive can be an incredibly emotional experience.

Whether you’re just starting your fertility journey, have been trying for a while, are undergoing fertility treatment or are navigating IVF, it can be difficult to know how to support yourself physically and emotionally.

Fertility yoga can provide a space to slow down, reconnect with your body and create moments of calm during what can be a stressful and uncertain time.

The fertility section of this blog explores yoga and wellbeing for women who are trying to conceive, with practical resources around movement, relaxation, breathwork and mindfulness.

You’ll find information about creating a supportive yoga practice while trying to conceive, including ways to approach yoga during different points in your cycle.

We’ll also explore topics relevant to women experiencing fertility treatment, including IVF yoga, fertility-friendly movement and yoga during the two-week wait.

Most importantly, this is a space that recognises the emotional side of fertility.

You don’t have to pretend that trying to conceive is easy.

Yoga can’t control the outcome of fertility treatment or guarantee pregnancy, but it can give you a supportive practice that helps you care for yourself through the process.

Whether you need an energising practice, a gentle stretch, a moment to breathe or simply somewhere to put down the pressure for ten minutes, you’ll find resources here to help you feel more supported.

Prenatal Yoga & Pregnancy

Pregnancy changes everything.

Your body is growing and adapting, your centre of gravity is shifting, your energy can fluctuate and you’re preparing for one of the biggest physical and emotional transformations of your life.

Prenatal yoga can be a wonderful way to stay active, build strength, improve mobility and connect with your changing body throughout pregnancy.

But pregnancy yoga isn’t simply about continuing the same yoga practice you had before you became pregnant.

Your body has different needs during pregnancy, and those needs continue to change from the first trimester through to the third.

This blog includes resources on pregnancy yoga and prenatal yoga, helping you understand how you can adapt your movement throughout the different stages of pregnancy.

You’ll find guidance around practising yoga during each trimester, as well as practices designed to support common pregnancy experiences such as tight hips, an achy back, tiredness and changing energy levels.

We’ll also explore yoga for preparing your body and mind for birth.

Pregnancy can sometimes come with a lot of fear and uncertainty. Your body is changing rapidly, and it can be easy to lose confidence in what it is capable of.

Prenatal yoga can help you develop strength, body awareness, mobility and trust.

It’s not about achieving the most advanced yoga pose.

It’s about learning to work with your body rather than against it.

Whether you’re completely new to yoga or you’ve been practising for years, the goal is to help you find movement that feels supportive, empowering and appropriate for your stage of pregnancy.

Yoga for Birth Preparation

Birth preparation is about much more than knowing what position your baby is in or packing your hospital bag.

Preparing for birth can also involve learning how to breathe, move, relax, listen to your body and build confidence in yourself.

Yoga can be a useful tool for developing this mind-body connection.

Through the blog, you’ll find resources around yoga for birth, birth preparation, breathing techniques, pelvic awareness, movement and relaxation.

These practices aren’t about predicting how your birth will happen. Birth can unfold in many different ways, and having a flexible mindset is important.

Instead, yoga can help you develop a toolkit of movement and breathing techniques that you can draw upon during pregnancy, labour and beyond.

Postnatal & Postpartum Yoga

Having a baby is a huge physical and emotional transition.

After birth, there can be enormous pressure to “get your body back”, return to exercise quickly or feel like yourself again immediately.

But your body has just done something extraordinary.

Postnatal yoga is not about rushing your recovery or trying to return to your pre-pregnancy body as quickly as possible.

It’s about supporting your body as it heals and helping you gradually reconnect with movement.

The postnatal section of this blog explores postpartum yoga, postnatal recovery, rebuilding strength after birth, pelvic floor awareness, core connection, mobility and relaxation.

We’ll also talk about the realities of becoming a new mum — including the emotional changes, lack of sleep, identity shifts and the challenge of finding time for yourself.

Your postnatal yoga practice might sometimes be a full class.

Sometimes it might be ten minutes on the mat.

And sometimes your most supportive choice might be to rest.

There is no perfect postnatal timeline.

Your recovery is personal, and your yoga practice should reflect that.

Yoga for the Pelvic Floor & Core

The pelvic floor plays an important role during pregnancy, birth and postpartum recovery.

But pelvic floor health isn’t simply about doing endless strengthening exercises.

Learning to breathe, relax, connect with your core and understand how your body moves can all be valuable parts of a balanced approach.

This blog includes resources exploring pelvic floor yoga, pelvic stability, core awareness and movement during pregnancy and after birth.

The intention is to help you develop a better relationship with your body rather than becoming obsessed with “fixing” it.

You don’t need hours every day.

Meet Liv

I’m Liv Sarah Berry, a yoga teacher specialising in women’s health, menstrual cycle yoga, fertility yoga and pregnancy yoga.

My approach is simple: I want women to feel more confident, empowered and connected to their bodies.

I don’t believe you need to “fix” your body before you can feel good in it.

I don’t believe you need to push through every day when your body is asking for rest.

And I don’t believe yoga should be another thing on your to-do list that makes you feel like you’re failing when you miss a day.

Instead, I want yoga to become something you can return to whenever you need it.

Something that helps you understand your body.

Something that helps you feel stronger.

Something that gives you space to breathe.

And something that reminds you that your body is capable of far more than you might think.

From your first period to your fertility journey, pregnancy, birth and postpartum recovery, your body will continue to change.

Yoga can change with you.
